Mailchimp was a startup out of Atlanta, Georgia, that started out as a tool which helped companies with issues that they faced with customer emails. This has become a profitable business since the CEO, Ben Chestnut, reports that it has grown to around 11 million customers with a total audience of 4 billion users.

However, it’s not as young as you may think. It was started in 2001, nearly 2 decades ago when Yahoo! was still the biggest website out there, Google was beneath its shadow, and the concept of social networks was still in its infancy.

Other milestones that the company has passed are:

  • Growing from 85,000 to 450,000 users within a year from 2009 to 2010
  • Sending 10 billion emails a month by June of 2014
  • Being ranked No. 7 on the Forbes Cloud 100 list in 2016

Hence, they’ve been climbing the ropes for quite some time now and their foray into marketing automation isn’t just an afterthought, it’s a plan that has been in the works for a long time. The tools in place today do not only include email campaigns and marketing tools, but also full featured CRMs which can optimize the conversation between companies and customers.

The platform has been rated very favorably by the likes of Forbes (as mentioned above), PC Mag, and Capterra. With thousands of user reviews and critical reviews online, it has certainly cemented itself as a well-respected and relied-upon tool—something which doesn’t come easily in tech.
